Honda Performance Development (HPD) is the Honda racing company within North America. Founded in 1993, and located in Santa Clarita, Calif., HPD is the technical operations center for high-performance Honda racing cars and engines.  The company marked its 25th anniversary in 2018.

HPD entered prototype sports car racing under the Acura Motorsports banner in 2007, winning multiple championships in American Le Mans Series competition.  From 2010-2016, the company supplied HPD chassis and Honda Racing engines to teams competing in the American Le Mans Series and IMSA, taking additional race victories and championships in nearly every season, including four wins and the Tequila Patron North American Endurance Manufacturers’ Championship in 2016.

Acura returned to IMSA competition as a manufacturer in 2017, partnering with Michael Shank Racing to field a pair of Acura NSX GT3 entries in the GTD category; claiming two race wins, a pole and four podium finishes.  In 2018, Acura is expanded its involvement in the sport with Team Penske campaigning a pair of new Acura ARX-05s in the headlining DPi prototype category.
