Dylan Murry Eagerly Awaits Season Opener at Daytona

Wednesday, January 23, 2019

The clock is ticking down on IMSA’s 2019 season opener at Daytona International Speedway and Dylan Murry for one can’t wait for the green flag to fly.

“I’m looking forward to getting down to Daytona and hitting the track,” said the 18-year-old Georgia driver. “It should be a real exciting season ahead. I am also honored to represent Wynn's, which is celebrating its 80th anniversary.”

Murry, along with co-drivers Jim Cox and Jeroen Bleekemolen, will be at the wheel of a Mercedes-AMG GT4 for Riley Motorsports when the four-hour BMW Endurance Challenge at Daytona takes place on Friday, January 25, at 12:15 p.m.

After posting a solid rookie campaign last year, Murry will clearly be looking for improvement in a brand new race car.

“The Mercedes is a great car,” he said. “Its strong point is handling. In the high speed corners, it’s an absolute machine!”

Murry and Cox got a good flavor of what the car was like at the recent Roar Before the Rolex 24 test days.

“We were very competitive at the Roar,” said Murry, the son of former sports car world champion David Murry. “At the end, we were one of the fastest cars. Riley Motorsports really did an excellent job.”

Now, Murry is hoping the test results will translate to success come race time.

“That’s certainly the plan,” he offered. “It’s a long season, but we definitely want to get off on the right foot at Daytona. A good race there can set the tone for the rest of the year.”

NBCSN will provide tape-delayed coverage of the BMW Endurance Challenge at Daytona race on Wednesday, February 6, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
