Stevenson Motorsports Teams with Leukemia & Lymphoma Society for Chevrolet Sports Car Classic

Thursday, June 2, 2016

Stevenson Motorsports is pleased to announce that the team will be supporting the LADY in RED (http://www.ladyinred.red) initiative to raise funds for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in next weekend's Chevrolet Sports Car Classic at Belle Isle.

The No. 6 Stevenson Motorsports Audi R8 LMS will sport a dedicated livery for the sprint round of IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship competition on the streets of Detroit’s Belle Isle Park that will feature names of individuals battling, in remission or passed from Leukemia, Lymphoma or Myeloma (all forms of Blood Cancers).

Stevenson Motorsports, which has returned to the GT-class ranks after winning the 2015 Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge championship with Robin Liddell and Andrew Davis, will look to raise funds on the way to the checkered flag with the No. 6 Stevenson Motorsports Audi R8 LMS co-driven by Liddell and Davis. The team will also be sporting a special LADY in RED design during the race weekend.

In addition to the unique race car livery, the team will be wearing LADY in RED t-shirts to raise awareness for the campaign. The t-shirts can be purchased for only $20 on the LADYinRED.red website, and the proceeds are a donation to the LLS.

The effort has been spearheaded by Britoni Burdett, who is on a mission to raise over $150,000 by June 11 as part of an ongoing effort for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s 10-week FUNdraising campaign.

“It’s a lot easier to raise money for a great cause than it is to fight for your life,” said Burdett. “It’s astonishing how many people are affected by blood cancers and cancers alike. I kindly ask for everyone to join efforts with Team LADY in RED as we Fight Against Blood Cancers. Together, let’s make SOMEDAY, TODAY and make dreams come true for millions of families. Even a penny could be the missing cent to fund a miracle.”

The effort is one of several initiatives that the Stevenson Motorsports Group has taken on through the years, including the 2015 effort to support Horse Lovers Organizing Rescue of Slaughterbound Equines.

“When Britoni (Burdett) reached out to us, we were happy to get involved and support this,” said Stevenson Motorsports team owner John Stevenson. “There are a lot of us who know someone who has lost someone to Leukemia or who is fighting through it, including my best friend, Dr. Lloyd Harris, DVM, and our dogs’ Veterinarian who lost his battle to a rare Lymphoma back in 2013. If we can help move closer to some kind of breakthrough with some support from our team, that’d be fantastic. Hopefully we can have a good weekend on and off the track!”

The No. 6 Stevenson Motorsports Audi R8 LMS will also be carrying decals to support the Emily Whitehead Foundation, which raises research funding for childhood cancer. Emily Whitehead was the first pediatric patient to receive and survive genetically modified T-cells to help fight her Leukemia. Emily is now 10-years old and cancer free.

“Initiatives like those of Britoni are what helped save Emily’s life,” said Tom Whitehead, Emily’s father. “Since 2001, The LLS has funded over $21 million dollars towards the research that helped saved Emily’s life and it doesn’t stop there; thousands of other children are in need of the same treatment so they can have a chance of living a healthy life.”
