Bodymotion Racing's ST Porsche Drivers More Than Ready for a Victory at Road America

Bodymotion Racing's entry in the Street Tuner (ST) division of the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge series has finished on the podium in all but two events so far this year, but has not yet won its class. Its drivers would like nothing better than to not only finish on the podium in Saturday's two-hour race at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wis., but they'd like to be on the top step after the race concludes at 6:05 p.m. local time.

The two drivers of the car, the Bodymotion Racing No. 21 Porsche Cayman sponsored by Competition Motorsport and Delaware Funds, are shaking off the most-recent race at Lime Rock Park in Lakeville, Conn. They're focusing forward after their car was involved in an accident not of its making very early in Connecticut, effectively ruining their chances for the class victory.

"For sure it was a very disappointing event last time for us," said Max Faulkner of Rumson, N.J., who co-drives the Porsche with Jason Rabe of Monticello, N.Y. "The best thing for us to do is try and forget it and approach this weekend as we have done with every other - maximum preparation and as few mistakes as possible."

"We can't change what happened at Lime Rock, so we're focused forward and more motivated than ever for a positive result," agreed Rabe.

The Ocean Township, N.J.-based team's Grand Sport (GS) entry, the Bodymotion No. 5 Porsche Cayman GT4 MR sponsored by Med Compass and Competition Motorsport, won't be in the team's new hauler when it heads to Wisconsin. Its drivers are Joe Robillard of Short Hills, N.J. and Stevan McAleer of Monticello, N.Y.

"At Lime Rock we had a pretty rough race, and both cars were damaged extensively," said Bodymotion Racing Owner Michael Bavaro. "We've been working non-stop to prepare both Porsches for this week's round at Road America. However, with all the new parts we had to order and the full-car rebuilds under the tight deadline, we are only going to compete this week with the No. 21 Porsche Cayman GT4 in the ST class with Jason Rabe and Max Faulkner. We hate this is the way it turned out, but we'll hope to be back with the No. 5 Porsche Cayman GT4 soon."

As Rabe and Faulkner look to move into the "win" column at Road America, the 4.048-mile, 14-turn road course whose layout hasn't changed since it opened in 1955, they'll also hope to improve their fourth-place position in the ST points championship with four races left remaining.

Practice begins on Friday at 9:55 a.m. for one hour, and again from 3:05 p.m. to 3:50 p.m. On Saturday there's a 15-minute warm-up session at 10:15 a.m. before ST qualifying from 10:40 a.m. to 10:55 a.m. and GS qualifying from 11 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. The race will follow on Saturday afternoon from 4:05 p.m. to 6:05 p.m. local (CDT) time.

Live video coverage and live timing and scoring of the race will be offered on imsa.tv and imsa.com. The race will also air on FOX Sports 1 on Sunday, Aug. 12 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Eastern.

Max Faulkner, co-driver, No. 21 Bodymotion Racing Porsche Cayman: "I think the straight-line speed of the Porsche Cayman will be a strong point for us here, but for sure we expect the BMW to be strong here, so we will have to drive well all weekend to have a shot at the win." 

Jason Rabe, co-driver, No. 21 Bodymotion Racing Porsche Cayman: "We're really hoping to keep up with the boosted BMW on the long Road America straightaways."

Have you driven at Road America in the past? What do you like about the track?

Faulkner:"I have been to Road America twice before with the Global Mazda MX-5 Cup series. This track will be a very different track in the Porsche than it was in the Mazda. It is all about the draft in the Mazda, and while the draft could be helpful this weekend, it will be more about momentum for us." 

Rabe:"The setting and history; it's American road racing at its finest! The town of Elkhart Lake is very cool too!"

What is your favorite turn there?

Faulkner: "Canada Corner at the end of the long back straight is my favorite corner. The high-speed approach and tricky nature of the corner exit create a challenging but fun corner."

Rabe: "Most of them - Turn 1, the Carousel, the Kink and Canada Corner."

About how many times will you shift per lap at Road America? 

Faulkner: "I'm not sure exactly how many times, but as this is one of the higher-speed tracks on the calendar, we will spend more time in fourth and fifth gear than we do at almost any other track." 

This is a rather late race; it starts at 4:05 p.m. Is that good, bad, or doesn't it matter?

Faulkner:"It doesn't matter for me! The track temperatures will be starting to go down by then hopefully, so the track should be fast and fun." 

Rabe: "Hopefully that's better for all of the spectators and the teams if there is an issue in qualifying."
