Performance Tech Brings French Home For Road Race Showcase

Saturday, August 6, 2016

DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. (Aug. 3, 2016) – Performance Tech Motorsports will seek redemption at driver James French’s home track, Road America in the Continental Tire Road Race Showcase.

In 2015 the team finished second after a last minute spin lost Performance Tech the lead and its first win of the season. In 2016 the team will again be hunting down its first win of the season as well as first pole but this time Performance Tech feels all that much closer to victory with its current lineup.

The duo of French and Kyle Marcelli in the No. 38 NeuroSpine Institute Prototype Challenge have landed on three podiums this year and have narrowly missed others with three fourth-place finishes. Currently, the team stands in a three way tie for third with JDC Motorsports and CORE Autosport. The balance of the race season schedule provides Performance Tech with four more tries to best the competition and lock in third or better in the points championship.

Performance Tech is already aiming to finish strong and hopes to gain an edge on the competition with French’s knowledge of the track. French and family have been a staple on the Road America scene since his diaper days. Growing up competing on the track has given French a finesse and comfortability on the Road America course.  The familiarity led him to take part in his first Indy Lights race earlier this year as the Verizon IndyCar series returned for competition on the historic track. He placed eighth in both races.

Team Principal Brent O’Neill has his fingers crossed for his team’s big breakthrough this weekend. He feels there is no better time to do it than at a driver’s home track and after coming off of a podium finish. The team finished third at Lime Rock Park, the shortest track of the season, after solid performances by both Marcelli and French.

“We’re looking forward to having James in the car at Road America since it’s his home track. It’s always fun to have his guests out and meet everyone that comes out to see him,” O’Neill said. “We’d love to get pole here. It’s so close, the competition for pole, between everyone. Here you’ll have a window of two or three laps to get it done. We’d like to see James on pole and start on pole and finish at the front.

“We shouldn’t have a problem with set up. We nailed it here last year so even though we’re going from the shortest track to the longest it shouldn’t matter. I think we’ll be ready to go as soon as we hit the track. James will be ready and we’ll be looking for Kyle to give us another strong run like he did at Lime Rock.”

The weekend begins with a Fan Forum featuring many of IMSA’s standout drivers, including James French. The event takes place Friday, August 5 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. CT at the Road America Center. Practice also begins Friday with practice one at 1:10 p.m. and practice two following later in the day at 5:25 p.m. Qualifying takes place Saturday, August 6 at 3:50 p.m. with the PC class taking the track at 4:40 p.m. The Continental Tire Road Race Showcase begins Sunday, August 7 at 4:05 p.m. Fans can watch the race live on FOX Sports 1 and IMSA.tv beginning at 4 p.m.
