TeamTGM Targets Podium Performance in Four-Hour Endurance Race at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca

Thursday, September 21, 2017

As the 2017 IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge enters into the final two races of the season, a four-hour race will be staged at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca this weekend ahead of the season-finale two-hour event at TeamTGM’s home track of Road Atlanta in October.

With a longer race, comes a whole new mix of strategy and with Hugh Plumb and Guy Cosmo behind the wheel of the No. 4 Porsche Cayman GT4 MR, as well as Joe Varde atop the pit box and the determined crew of TeamTGM all supporting the effort – a podium finish is the goal on Saturday.

The 2.238-mile road course is a driver and fan favorite with its variety of twists and turns and 180 feet of elevation change – the most famous section of the circuit is the Corkscrew corner which features a 12% drop in elevation.

“With two races remaining on the schedule we’re targeting two strong finishes,” said Cosmo, who evacuated his home in Florida during Hurricane Irma, but is fortunate to report minimal damage. “As we’ve shown all year, we have all the ingredients for success. Now is our time to shine. Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca is a track that should showcase our TeamTGM Porsche Cayman GT4 well and with a four-hour format, Hugh (Plumb) and I plan to dominate. We are strong, our team is smart and calculated and Hugh and I are at the top of our game.”

Both Cosmo and Plumb each have made several starts at the Northern California circuit. Cosmo’s best finish came when he was racing a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup for Orbit Racing in 2009 – taking both the pole position and the victory. Plumb’s best finish came in 2015 when he co-drove with his brother Matt for Rum Bum Racing in a Porsche 911 and finished fourth.
“As always, I love going to Laguna Seca in beautiful Monterey,” said Plumb. “I look forward to working with Guy (Cosmo) and the entire team to put our TeamTGM Porsche up front. Ted Giovanis is so passionate about this sport. We look forward to delivering his team success in the final two races.”
The event gets underway on Friday, September 22 with three practice sessions followed by qualifying. The four-hour Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca 240 goes green on Saturday, September 23 at 2:00 PM local (6:00 PM ET) and can be viewed LIVE on
