The Nissan DPis of the ESM team tackled their final race of the 2018 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship this weekend – Motul Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta.

The No. 2 and No. 22 machines showed great pace and battled to the end of the ten-hour enduro to cap off a successful season of Nissan racing.

Starting from pole position, the No. 22 of Pipo Derani, Johannes Van Overbeek and Timo Bernhard suffered a flat tire in the first hour of the race, putting them off-sequence and down the running order.

The team fought back, and by the final hour, they were out in front of the field with Pipo Derani at the wheel. A late-race pit stop for a splash of fuel, however, resulted in a sixth-place finish at the checkered flag.

Despite being fast all weekend, the No. 2 car faced issues early in the race that limited their progress through the field. Starting fourth, the team consistently ran in the top five for the first three hours of the race before a suspension issue on the left front sent them to the garage for an extended repair.

Falling several laps down, the No. 2 car finished P11 on the day.

The team finished the year with two victories in 2018 – one at the 12 Hours of Sebring and a second at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca for car No. 22. The team also scored two pole positions - here at Petit Le Mans and also in Detroit.
