TeamTGM continued its championship celebrations this weekend at the annual Mercedes-AMG Customer Racing season finale celebration held in Stuttgart, Germany. After claiming the 2018 IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge championship, TeamTGM was awarded fifth place in the global Mercedes-AMG Team GT4 category while Owen Trinkler and Hugh Plumb received third place in the Pro Driver GT4 category.

The celebration brought together more than 150 Mercedes-AMG Customer Racing teams from all around the world as they celebrated their accomplishments during the 2018 season. Held in Stuttgart, the home of German engineering and more importantly Mercedes-AMG, the celebration was a special one for TeamTGM as the team was recognized for what it had accomplished in its first-ever season with Mercedes-AMG.

“In just a short time, over the past year, we have developed a great relationship with Mercedes and we are looking forward to that relationship continuing to grow into 2019,” said Giovanis. “It was almost a year to the day of me attending the 24H event at COTA to check out the new Mercedes-AMG GT4 in 2017 and it was really special to then be here and attend the awards banquet where we received such amazing honors.”
The accomplishment was special on many levels and was a memorable way to close out the year’s success.
"It was an honor to represent the entire team, TGM, in Germany at the 2018 AMG Customer Racing Season Finale,” said Giovanis. “We have had so many highs and lows since we started at the professional level, and to have worldwide recognition amongst team's running Mercedes is such an amazing accomplishment. We have had great success in 2018 and we look forward to a great 2019 as well."
Plumb and Trinkler, who co-drove the No. 46 Jayne Koskinas Ted Giovanis (JKTG) Foundation / Camp Boggy Creek Mercedes-AMG GT4 and earned a remarkable four podiums and three wins in the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge series. The effort was a journey, having to learn a completely new and unfamiliar platform, but Trinkler and Plumb, along with the effort put forth by TeamTGM were a display of the capabilities of the Mercedes-AMG GT4.

With many unknowns and learning experiences during the first half of the season, TeamTGM soon gained momentum with its first ever victory at Lime Rock Park, followed by victories at VIR and WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. Having been the only car to finish every lap of every event, Trinkler and Plumb were awarded for their performance this season in Stuttgart.

“It was really great to represent the USA, TeamTGM and IMSA as we were the only team from North America who received an award,” said Plumb. “Mercedes-AMG put on quite a worldwide show for all of their teams. It was an honor to be there with my team owner and teammate to represent our success and handwork.”
“The whole event just really capped off the year that we had with TeamTGM,” said Trinkler. “It has been a dream season for me, Hugh, Ted (Giovanis) and Kristina (Giovanis) and getting to go to Stuttgart was just amazing. It was pretty cool to be at the banquet and to be able to represent IMSA and Continental Tire. The event was so cool and it was great to see the history and evolution of Mercedes-AMG and all of the championships that they have won just this year alone.”
